Masai and I have had a blast learning about all the different Melanated people that have done so many AMAZING things this year for Literacy Month!!! Unfortunately some of these Heroes are not well known,so we made it our mission to find a few and learn as much as we could about them. We enjoyed reading about the first Melanated samurai Mr. Yasuke and how he was a great warrior. We tried our hand at making some Chinese letters....lol. https://youtu.be/HAp0d97UcfQ
This week we learned about Ms.Mary Seacole. She was a nurse,who learn herbal medicine from her mother. Armed with these skill she sit out to help the wounded service men,but instead was shown discrimination because of the color of her skin. Our history is so RICH and full of some of the most amazing people!!! Some famous and some not so famous. However each and everyone of them made many sacrifices,some even with their lives. So that we could have the freedoms we have today(although we are still far from FREE). So please do yourself and your children a favor and research our history,because it didn't start on slaveships with bullwhips....
