For Sunni Long, eating healthy and living holisitically is something she's been accustomed for as long as she can remember. She regularly speaks of how her mother made a major transformation in her life while she and her younger sister were but just toddlers. Sunni says that when she was about three years, her mother became a Seventh Day Adventist and completely revolutionized everything from their what they viewed on television to their diet. She admits that growing up, her vegan/vegetarian diet was often the brunt of jokes which made her and her sister rather hate the holistic way which they were being raised. Years later, however, Sunni says that she is more than thankful for the way that her mother raised her and her sister, because today it has paid off in numerous ways.

Inspired by her mother's fortitude and choice to live a holistic lifestyle, Sunni has recently assembled thirty of her favorite, tried and true recipes and put them in her first published recipe book called Cooking With Sunni D: Passing on the Legacy.

On March 5, Sunni held her book release and taste testing soiree at the Writer's Place in Kansas City, Missouri. In attendance were at least 50 people who came to support Sunni and purchase her first published book.

During the event, Sunni shared her holistic journey and encouraged those in attendance to seek to maintain or improve their health with holistic methods.

Citing the Adventist health message and what are identified as the Eight Laws of Health, she stated that through simple practices and consistency, optimal health is able to be obtained. The Eight Laws of Health are:
  1. Nutrition
  2. Exercise
  3. Water
  4. Sunlight
  5. Temperance
  6. Air
  7. Rest
  8. Trusting the Most High

Attendees were delighted to find an assortment of sample dishes, many of which were in the cook book, laid out to please their palate.

On the menu, Sunni prepared an array of delicious and nutritious dishes, including vegan rotel, vegan meatballs, vegan chicken salad, vegan brownie bites, vegan cinnamon rolls and vegan banana bread.

The evening turned out to be an intimate night filled with the breaking of bread and conversation. Writer's Place board member Jose Faus was more than please with the turn out and was quite impressed with the alternative dishes provided and stated that he was glad to host the event at his location.

For Sunni, it was the first of many engagements on the horizon for her holistic dieting venture called Sunni's Holistic Delights. Here is where you can purchase some of her dishes and her cook book.

You can also check out her blogspot, Sunni's Delights, where she places recipes and other holistic items and ideas.

Listen below to Sunni welcome the early arrivals at her book release.
