Melanated History Month (Colonel Allen AllensWorth)

Shalom Y'all,
Today our Melanted Hero is Colonel Allen AllensWorth. Colonel AllensWorth was born into slavery. However he had a desire to learn to read by any means necessary. So as a child he convinced his masters son to play school,so he could learn to read and write. When the masters wife found out she had him sold to another plantation.

His mother was devastated his father had just died, and her other children had been sold. Before he was shipped off he was allowed to see his mother. She gave him a silver half dollar and told him to buy himself a book and a comb. She encouraged him to put the knowledge from the book in his head, and comb everything else that wasn't beneficial to him out!

Colonel AllensWorth stuck to those words his mother told him a day. Colonel AllensWorth went on to accomplish many amazing things in his life. He became a Colonel in the army,he got a college degree, pastored several churches, one of his greatest accomplishment was in 1908 starting the town of AllensWorth.
