Today our Melanated Hero is Mr. James Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin was born on August 2 1924,in Harlem New York. He was a world famous Melanated Poet, Playwright, Novelist,Essayist,and Social Critic. Mr. Baldwin was one of many children, and his job was to take care of the younger ones.
When he was about 14-15 years old his after school job was in a sweat shop to help his family financially. Mr. Baldwin dreamed of a different life for himself. He loved writing and poetry, so one of the greatest influences of young James life was Mr. Countee Cullen a leading figure in the Harlem Renaissance.
At this same time he also had a chance encounter that would forever change his life. Mr. Baldwin and a buddy of his decided to skip school to hangout with Mr. Beauford Delaney a Melanated Painter of the times. He encouraged Mr. Baldwin that he could be anything,and that the sky was the limit.
