Shalom Y'all,
Today's Melanated Hero is Deputy Marshall Bass Reeves! Deputy Marshall Reeves was born into slavery in 1938,he later became the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. He worked mostly in Arkansas and the Oklahoma Territory. During his long career, he was credited with arresting more than 3,000 felons. He shot and killed 14 outlaws in self-defense. He was given his star by hanging judge

Deputy Marshall Reeves was a sight to behold at six feet, two inches in height, and two hundred plus pounds! Marshall Reeves was definitely respected and feared. For more than three decades he keep the territory that he patrolled safe. Upon retiring Deputy Marshall Reeves arrested 3,000 outlaws, and unfortunately had to murder 14 outlaws in self defense.
